My Friend - Chinese Homework

My Friend –

Representation In Media

In today's ICT lesson, we looked at "Representation In Media".

Here are some basic points.

•By definition, all media texts are re-presentations of reality.
•They are composed, lit, written, framed, cropped, captioned, branded, targeted and censored by their producers.
• They're fake versions of the reality we believe around us.
• Without media, our view of the world would be very limited
• We need the media to make sense of reality.
• The influence the media exerts has a major impact on the way we view the world.
• Media representations can reinforce or shatter our view on things.
• There wasmass manipulation in the 1920s and 1930s.
• We decode the different layers of truth/fiction.
• You must consider:

    • Who produced it?
    • What/who is represented in the text?
    • How is that thing represented?
    • Why was this particular representation (this shot, framed from this angle, this story phrased in these terms, etc) selected, and what might the alternatives have been?
    • What frame of reference does the audience use when understanding the representation?

Male and Female stereotypes and representation normally based on these aspects:

Typically masculine
•Tough
•Hard
•Sweaty
Typically feminine
•Fragile
•Soft
•Fragrant

Beatles Music Project

Our last music topic was all about The Beatles, we learnt about the history of the band and some of the songs the had written. Our final assessment was to recreate the song "Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles and add our own twist to it. We copied the Eleanor Rigby score from a PDF file into Finale NotePad 2008 then converted it to a MIDI file and put it in garageband, we combined all of them to create the song. Our teacher then sent us the vocal notes MIDI file to put in to sound more like the original song. This is what we had to do to get a average level 4 on our project. To get higher we had to change the instruments of each track, create our own original track and add anything else that would go well with the song. I changed the instruments to trumpets, bass, acoustic guitar and orchestral strings. In addition to that i added a simple electric guitar track that i had composed my self giving a pop/hip hop twist to it. To emphasize the pop/hip hop i added beats and shakers to the background.

Ancient Greece: Humanities

We have just started a new topic in Humanities class: Ancient Greece. The mind map is about what my class would really want to know about Ancient Greece including many things like mythology, army and navy, sports, wars, geography, art... etc. The two I chose were Building (architecture) and Inventions of ancient greece. My favourite was actually one someone had already taken which was Mythology. We used mindmeister to create this mind map online, it has a broad range of styles and creativity tools for you to jot down ideas or notes for classes. I prefer taking notes on the computer compared to paper as it is neater and quicker to do. This Humanities project I am looking foward to doing as Ancient Greece ties in with almost everything we do in life (architecture, language, clothing, art... etc)

Chinese Cinderella

In English, we are currently studying and reading the book "Chinese Cinderella" by Adeline Yen Mah, it's an auto-biography that tells her true life story. The story is about the "Growth Through Adversity" of her life. Growth meaning her growing up mentally and physically. Adversity meaning difficulties or misfortunes. "Growth Through Adversity" meaning growing and maturing through the troubles and misfortunes of your life.

Our guiding question is "How Do We Form And Shape Our Identity?" the book "Chinese Cinderella" is a excellent example of our guiding question. Another way to see it is,  what we do and the experiences we go through affect who we are in the future and what type of person we are.

Summary

In this project in ICT, I have learned a lot of new blogging skills and how to apply them to other tasks I might need to do in the future including the use of embedding, writing formally, problem solving, creativeness…etc. Unexpectedly, I was improving my writing and editing skills too from all the blogging posts and checking through them. Through the whole project the tasks were simple and the instructions were short, but the hard part was figuring out how to do it and where to get it. The stuff I learned is easily applied when I’m doing other projects and tasks online like embedding things especially. Next time I learn something new, I need to apply the things I learnt and how I approach it, like how I did in ICT especially when figuring out how to do things.
